You Are Allowed to Like More Than One Thing

You do not have to pick just one.

Being multi-passionate is a superpower, not a lack of focus.

Quick Answer

You can be a competitive dancer and a bookworm and a girl who bakes and a future scientist all at once. Loving more than one thing does not make you less serious. It makes you more interesting and more resilient.

The myth of the one thing

Somewhere along the way, kids started hearing that serious people pick one thing and give up everything else. That is a myth. Plenty of the world's most accomplished people were multi-passionate their whole lives.

Loving several things does not divide your talent. Each interest feeds the others in ways you cannot always see.

How your other loves make you a better dancer

Music training sharpens your timing. Art trains your eye for lines and shapes, which is literally what choreography is. Reading builds the imagination you use to perform a character.

Even things that look unrelated, like animals or baking or coding, teach patience, sequencing, and care. It all shows up on stage eventually.

You are more than your best skill

If dance is the only thing you are, then a bad competition can feel like the end of the world. But if you are a dancer AND a friend AND an artist AND a girl with a hundred interests, one rough weekend is just one rough weekend.

Your other loves are not distractions from dance. They are the net that catches you on hard days.

Permission slip

Consider this your official permission slip: you are allowed to love dance with your whole heart and still be curious about everything else.

Try the club. Check out the book. Bake the thing. The girl who follows her curiosity ends up with the most interesting life, and it shows in everything she does.
